How to enter into Tibet
You wish to visit Tibet by yourself ?
First you must make air-flight reservations as soon as possible for Kathmandu or China.
You have to get in due time also a Chinese Visa.
And you must know that travels in Tibet are only allowed for groups.
3 ways to enter into Tibet =
1-You arrive in Kathmadu city and take an Hotel in Thamel downtown - cheap hotels and a lot
of travel agencies. You will find an agency preparing some groups and therefore delivering
air-flight tickets and tibet-pass - 4 days.
2- You arrive in Chengdu and evey hotel will give you the address of a nearby Travel Agency which will deliver the air ticket to Lhasa and the permit - 2days.
3- You arrive in Golmud city by train via Lanzhou and Xining. In Lanzhou you can go to Labrang monastery(3days)
and in Xining you can go to KumBum or Taerse monastery (1 or 2 days). In Golmud the bus n°9 will take you to the Central Golmud Hotel (large rooms or dormitories next building). The CITS agency is between both and will make bus reservations and get the permit too.
The immigrant bus is 18/24h non stop - 2 departures 10h00 and 15h00.
When arriving in Lhasa - a chinese/tibetan agency will wait you:
at Lhasa airport (or at the Lhasa bus station) to accompaign you to an hotel - following your request of
price - for at least 3 days. After those 3 days you can make arrangements to visit the prettiest places of Central Tibet or disappear in the country with the risk to be placed in the the first bus to Lhasa by local PSB officers.
